The Lord’s Prayer: the Fourth Request

Give us our daily bread today.

What does this mean?

God gives daily bread without our prayers, even to all the wicked people. However, we pray in this request that God would lead us to recognize that he is the source of our daily bread and to be grateful when we accept it.

What is daily bread?

Daily bread refers to everything that supplies what our bodies need, such as food, drink, clothes, shoes, house, home, fields, cattle, money, goods, a pious spouse, pious children, pious workers, pious and faithful rulers, a good government, good weather, peace, good health, a good education, a good reputation, good friends, dependable neighbors, and other similar blessings.
