The Lord’s Prayer: the First Request

Let your name be kept holy.
Matthew 6:9

What does this mean?

God’s name is holy all by itself. However, we pray in this request that his name will become holy in our lives.

How is that done?

God’s name becomes holy when people teach the Bible in its truth and purity, and when we, as God’s children, make our lives conform to its teachings. Help us to do this, dear Father in heaven! However, anyone who teaches or lives in a way that is different from what the Bible teaches, abuses God’s name among us. Heavenly Father, prevent this from happening!
