The Apostles’ Creed: God Reclaims Us
The Second Article is About God Reclaiming Us
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary gave birth to him. He suffered at the hands of Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was placed in a tomb. He went down into hell. He came back to life three days after he died. He went up into heaven and was given the honored position—the one next to God, the almighty Father [at God’s right hand]—on the heavenly throne. He will come back from heaven to judge the living and the dead.
What does this mean?
I believe that Jesus Christ is really God, the only Son of the Father from eternity, and really human, the son of the virgin Mary.
Jesus Christ is my Lord.
He has reclaimed me because I was a lost and condemned creature.
He has set me free from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil.
He did not use gold or silver to gain my release, but he used his holy, precious blood, and his innocent suffering and death.
He did this so I would be his own and serve him in his kingdom. Since he has declared me innocent and I have his approval [righteousness] and blessing,
I can serve him forever.
He came back from the dead, and he lives and rules throughout all eternity.
This is most certainly true!
