Rough & Rocky Roads

It’s a good practice to be grateful for the many things we have in life. But what about being grateful for the difficult times too?

No one enjoys difficulty, but it provides us a chance for growth.

If we are honest with ourselves, most of us get stronger when we face challenges. We find just how resilient we can be when dealing with emotional hurt, sickness, job loss, unhappiness, or financial obstacles. In spite of stress and anxiety, our reliance on our faith can strengthen us.

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in times of trouble.
Psalm 46:1

Challenging events can help to clarify things and enable us to have a positive attitude in future struggles. We become better equipped to take on the rough and rocky roads because we’ve explored them before. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we know that we are not left alone.

In every way we’re troubled, but we aren’t crushed by our troubles. We’re frustrated, but we don’t give up. We’re persecuted, but we’re not abandoned. We’re captured, but we’re not killed.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9

When we change our perspective and become appreciative for our difficult times, we can find the good even when fear and doubt overwhelm us.

So, pause and be grateful for the things learned through challenges and the spiritual growth that can develop. If you don’t, you might miss a glimpse of God’s presence in your life. Hard times don’t last forever, but He does.
