God’s Word for Today: January 19

Exodus 19–24

God gave Moses laws for the Israelites. The people listened carefully when Moses gave them regulations for worship, social and civil issues. They promised to obey all of God’s laws. Read the ten commandments in 20:1-17.

What was the purpose of the ten commandments? These laws showed the people how to love God and how to love others. The behavior of God’s people was to be decidedly different from the rest of the world.

Today, pray that you do not become so familiar with God and his word that you lose respect for them. Pray that you never take your time with God for granted.
