God’s Word for Today: December 18

2 Peter 3

Peter reminded his readers that God will keep every promise he makes. God’s timetable for fulfilling his promises is the best one for us. 

Why is Jesus taking so long to come back? Whether you’re distraught over the state of the world or struggling with doubt, focus on verses 8-9:

Dear friends, don’t ignore this fact: One day with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. The Lord isn’t slow to do what he promised, as some people think. Rather, he is patient for your sake. He doesn’t want to destroy anyone but wants all people to have an opportunity to turn to him and change the way they think and act.

Christians can be sure that Jesus will return.

Today, prayerfully consider what activities you should begin or what activities you should stop in order to please God and glorify him. Ask him to help you implement these changes as you wait for Christ’s return.
