God’s Word for Today: September 4

Haggai 1:1 to Haggai 2:23

Some Jewish people returned to Israel after the exile. Their first task was to rebuild the temple. Haggai and Zechariah served as prophets and encouraged the people to finish building the temple and to be faithful to God.

What is a Christian’s hope for success? Just as God helped his people rebuild the temple, God helps us fulfill his work. We can’t complete his work through our own power or cleverness, but only through his Spirit.

Today, ask God to help you to be faithful to a task at church. Although you may grow tired, ask God for endurance to continue until the task is finished.
