God’s Promises Enable Your Endurance

Hebrews 10:35-36 GW

God’s life-changing word overflows with his promises of real love, forgiveness, salvation, peace, hope, and joy for everyone who trusts in his Son, Jesus.

These seven passages encourage followers of Christ to continue fearing God and recognize that trials to their faith produce endurance.

Do not envy sinners in your heart.
Instead, continue to fear the Lord.
There is indeed a future,
and your hope will never be cut off.
Proverbs 23:17-18

“Even parents, brothers, relatives, and friends will betray you and kill some of you. Everyone will hate you because you are committed to me. But not a hair on your head will be lost. By your endurance you will save your life.”
Luke 21:16-19

Finally, brothers and sisters, pray that we spread the Lord’s word rapidly and that it will be honored the way it was among you. Also pray that we may be rescued from worthless and evil people, since not everyone shares our faith. But the Lord is faithful and will strengthen you and protect you against the evil one.

The Lord gives us confidence that you are doing and will continue to do what we ordered you to do. May the Lord direct your lives as you show God’s love and Christ’s endurance.
2 Thessalonians 3:1-5

Remember the past, when you first learned the truth. You endured a lot of hardship and pain. At times you were publicly insulted and mistreated. At times you associated with people who were treated this way. You suffered with prisoners. You were cheerful even though your possessions were stolen, since you know that you have a better and more permanent possession.

So don’t lose your confidence. It will bring you a great reward. You need endurance so that after you have done what God wants you to do, you can receive what he has promised.

My brothers and sisters, be very happy when you are tested in different ways. You know that such testing of your faith produces endurance.
James 1:2-3

Brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord comes again. See how farmers wait for their precious crops to grow. They wait patiently for fall and spring rains. You, too, must be patient. Don’t give up hope. The Lord will soon be here.

Brothers and sisters, follow the example of the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. They were patient when they suffered unjustly. We consider those who endure to be blessed.
James 5:7-8, 10-11

God’s divine power has given us everything we need for life and for godliness. This power was given to us through knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and integrity. Through his glory and integrity he has given us his promises that are of the highest value. Through these promises you will share in the divine nature because you have escaped the corruption that sinful desires cause in the world.

Because of this, make every effort to add integrity to your faith; and to integrity add knowledge; to knowledge add self-control; to self-control add endurance; to endurance add godliness; to godliness add Christian affection; and to Christian affection add love.
2 Peter 1:3-7
