Five Bible Passages About Temptation
Do you feel weak and helpless when tempted to sin?
Use Scripture and prayer to resist the devil, and he will run away from you.
My son,
pay attention to my words.
Treasure my commands that are within you.
Obey my commands so that you may live.
Follow my teachings just as you protect the pupil of your eye.
Tie them on your fingers.
Write them on the tablet of your heart.
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister.”
Give the name “my relative” to understanding
in order to guard yourself from an adulterous woman,
from a loose woman with her smooth talk.
Proverbs 7:1-5
Then the Spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the devil. Jesus did not eat anything for 40 days and 40 nights. At the end of that time, he was hungry.
The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”
Jesus answered, “Scripture says, ‘A person cannot live on bread alone but on every word that God speaks.’”
Then the devil took him into the holy city and had him stand on the highest part of the temple. He said to Jesus, “If you are the Son of God, jump! Scripture says, ‘He will put his angels in charge of you. They will carry you in their hands so that you never hit your foot against a rock.’”
Jesus said to him, “Again, Scripture says, ‘Never tempt the Lord your God.’”
Once more the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms in the world and their glory. The devil said to him, “I will give you all this if you will bow down and worship me.”
Jesus said to him, “Go away, Satan! Scripture says, ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”
Then the devil left him, and angels came to take care of him.

There isn’t any temptation that you have experienced which is unusual for humans. God, who faithfully keeps his promises, will not allow you to be tempted beyond your power to resist. But when you are tempted, he will also give you the ability to endure the temptation as your way of escape.
1 Corinthians 10:13
We need to hold on to our declaration of faith: We have a superior chief priest who has gone through the heavens. That person is Jesus, the Son of God. We have a chief priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses. He was tempted in every way that we are, but he didn’t sin. So we can go confidently to the throne of God’s kindness to receive mercy and find kindness, which will help us at the right time.
Hebrews 4:14-16
Blessed are those who endure when they are tested. When they pass the test, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. When someone is tempted, he shouldn’t say that God is tempting him. God can’t be tempted by evil, and God doesn’t tempt anyone. Everyone is tempted by his own desires as they lure him away and trap him. Then desire becomes pregnant and gives birth to sin. When sin grows up, it gives birth to death.
