Give Thanks to God

Authentic Prayer: Thanks

Give thanks to the LORD because he is good,
because his mercy endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods
because his mercy endures forever.
Psalm 136:1-2

Give thanks to God.

Genuine thankfulness is more than an ambiguous sense of gratitude. It endeavors to witness and call out distinct things for praise.

James 1:17 states that “every good present and every perfect gift comes from above, from the Father who made the sun, moon, and stars,” so you can be sure that the Lord provides your every blessing. But Psalm 136 depicts how to go beyond offering God “thanks for everything.” He’s righteous throughout and reigns over the entire universe. The Lord wondrously created the world, from placing the stars to filling the seas. He determines discipline for the wicked and saves his followers. God clears the way to guide his people forward. He nourishes every creature. And his compassion never ends.

Before you express your gratitude, take time to consider everything God has done for you. Go beneath the surface. The Lord is the origin of all that is good, so be precise as you praise and thank him.
