Joshua 5:13 to Joshua 8:35
God helped the Israelites conquer the city of Jericho. After this victory Israel suffered a devastating defeat at another city called Ai.
Why did the Israelite leaders tear their clothes when the people lost the battle? Tearing one’s clothes was a display of intense grief. Likewise, placing dust on one’s head was a sign of humility before God.
God told Joshua that one person’s sin had caused this defeat. Joshua and all of Israel confronted the man who had sinned. Then God continued to give them victories.
Today, ask God to forgive a secret sin in your life. Ask him to help you resist the desire to commit that sin again.
